Destination Profile
The home of Picasso can often feel like one of the surrealist's paintings. There's a higgledy-piggledy Old Town area where Mudejar cathedral spires spike the skies and bougainvillea spills from iron-wrought balconies. There's the Moorish Alcazaba, fusing 11th-century fortifications with ancient Roman theater terraces. There's a bullring next to a glowing yellow beachfront, the Mediterranean lapping into punchy port areas filled with tapas joints and cocktail bars. Oh, and then – of course – there's the world-famous Costa del Sol, extending westwards in Blue Flag bays and glitzy yacht resorts. Cheap flights to Malaga from USA will almost always involve a stopover along the way, usually taking between 14-22 hours before touchdown on the Spanish coast.
The Costa del Sol might just be the most famous length of shoreline on the planet. It's laden with gorgeous beaches and sleepless party towns.
Malaga Old Town is a place of palm-lined avenues, plaza cafes, and inviting tapas restaurants.
Make for the sierras behind Malaga and the handsome whitewashed town of Ronda awaits, with a great bullring and urban gorge.
No airlines fly non-stop between the United States of America and Malaga.
