Destination Profile
Glinting like a Spanish seashell in the Med, Mallorca is one of the best-loved Balearic Islands. It's been a holiday mecca since anyone can remember, famed for its rock-ringed coves and pine-scented inlets, uber-clean seas and vibey little resorts. Stepping off cheap flights to Mallorca from USA, you'll first encounter the UNESCO-listed city of Palma. That's gilded with a mighty Gothic cathedral that dates to the 13th-century, and touts an antique old town where Arab baths mix with cafés. Nearby, Magaluf is for the hedonists, Cala d'Or beckons the beach bums, and Portals Nous offers families a sun-soaked escape. For adventurers, there's certainly nothing better than the mountains of Tramuntana, where hiking paths weave through orange groves and vineyards.
Palma de Mallorca is the UNESCO-tagged capital of the island, home to a grand cathedral and loveable old town.
The Serra de Tramuntana extend all along the north-west edge of Mallorca. They've got trails for hikers, old towns for culture lovers, and even drop to stunning beaches.
Es Calo des Moro is a picture-worthy beach that's framed by craggy headlands and lapped by azure Mediterranean waves.
No airlines fly non-stop between the United States of America and Palma de Mallorca.
